Guenther takes over Steffen Service

Same great service with a few tweaks. That’s what Gary Guenther, new owner of Steffen Service is saying about the gas shop and convenience store on Highway 12.

Guenther officially took over ownership on April 1 and he’s excited about continuing to serve the Crofton community. While many services will remain the same, there will be some changes and improvements.

Guenther said he is planning to offer more food selections such as smoked chicken drum sticks, smoked ribs and pork loin, as well as ice cream year round. Sub sandwiches are still part of the menu. He is very interested in customer feedback on what they like in new food items.

Automotive services are limited at this time until a mechanic is hired, but drop off tire repairs are available with next day pick-up. Over the coming months, repairs to the parking lot and around the pumps will be done along with curbside landscaping.

The station will also be open on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Guenther will still be working full time at the Crofton Elevator while Megann Sutera manages the store. Sutera brings business management experience from her previous employment at Kmart in Yankton. The business name will remain Steffen Service in memory of long-time owner Loren Steffen and a grand reopening is being planned for a future date. The friendly faces of Dale Hoffart, Holly Peitz, and Diane Limoges will continue to greet customers and take care of running the store efficiently.
