Crofton Community School stakeholders will begin receiving ballots for the upcoming bond election via the mail starting on August 18.

With details told in this week’s edition near the public notices page – the Crofton School Bond election will have ballots automatically mailed to those registered starting on August 18.

Registrations can be filled out for the election until August 22 for mailed ballots, and voting in-person can be done until the close of the election on September 9 at 5 p.m.

The Bond request has been set at $5.9 million, and the expected work to be done includes:

Entrance security at the elementary

Updated finishes and casework of current elementary classrooms

Renovation of southwest restrooms, two hallways, utilities, ect.

Remove interior partitions at current kindergarten

Build six new elementary classrooms to accommodate changes in instructional strategies and growth

Construct new elementary cafeteria (move it out of the gym)

Replace existing roof at the elementary

New ceiling and paint in the elementary gym

No construction at the High School other than the secure vestibule, which is covered with grant funds

The notice of election also appears in this week’s edition, with the question being asked of voters:

Shall Knox County School District 0096 (Crofton Community Schools), in the State of Nebraska, issue the bonds of said District in the principal amount of not to exceed Five Million Nine Hundred Thousand Dollars ($5,900,000) for the purpose of paying the costs of constructing additions and renovations and other site improvements to the existing elementary building and providing for necessary furniture, technology and apparatus for such building; said bonds to be issued from time to time as may be determined by the Board of Education, to bear interest at a rate or rates to be determined by the Board of Education and to become due at such time or times as may be fixed by the Board of Education; and

“Shall the District cause to be levied and collected annually a special levy of taxes against all the taxable property in said District sufficient in rate and amount to pay the interest and principal of said bonds as the same become due?”
