The Crofton Warriors broke a state record for highest scoring tied game against Wynot in their Friday night football game with a tied score of 70-70 in the third overtime, ultimately losing 76-78.
Junior Tyson Jackson had an outstanding performance with 9 touchdowns and 332 rushing yards. Wynot started the game off on defense and had a fumble recovery that led to a touchdown. Crofton eventually had a successful drive and scored a touchdown, but they were unable to get the extra two. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 8-6, Wynot.
Crofton scored a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to start the second quarter. After Crofton’s drive, Wynot had a successful kick return and got extra yardage from a good block. Wynot went on to score a touchdown with no extra point. Crofton returned the ball off a kick and proceeded to fumble. Wynot picked it up and ran for another couple yards. They got within 5 yards of the end zone and couldn’t score and turned over the ball. Crofton scored from that turnover by running the ball consistently. Both teams then went back and forth all quarter until halftime with a score of 28-20, Wynot.
In the third quarter Wynot stopped Crofton’s drive early and forced a fumble. Wynot went on to hold Crofton to 20 points and score one more touchdown, ending the quarter with a score of 34-28.
The Warriors came out ready to play and started the fourth quarter with a touchdown. Wynot started deep in Crofton territory resulting in a Warriors touchback. On the next series the Blue Devils recovered a fumble in their own end zone for a touchback of their own. Both teams went back and forth scoring touchdowns with Crofton making a comeback. Crofton came back and tied the score to turn the game into overtime. The final score of the fourth quarter was 50-50.
In overtime both teams scored once and didn’t get the 2-point conversion. Both teams went on to score the same for another 3 times. The last play of the game Wynot had just scored and got the extra two points, so the warriors had to score and get extra points to stay in the game. The Warriors scored a touchdown off a run with Tyson Jackson, but the 2-point conversion failed on a bad snap.
Jackson was named Offensive Player of the Week with 37 attempts adding 332 rushing yards. He also had a stunning 9 rushing touchdowns. Porter Bartels was named Defensive Player of the Week with 2 sacks. He added 4 tackles for loss and 6 solo tackles.
