Crofton-Bloomfield’s young girls wrestling team placed five wrestlers at the O’Neill Invitational, placing 10th as a team with 83 points.
Kicking her high school career off strong, freshman Madison Nelson finished in 3rd place wrestling at 110 with nine points. Nelson won her finals match 7-5 against Paisley Hoffman of North Central. Sophomore Bethany Arens finished in 3rd place wrestling at 145. Arens finished with nine points as well. Arens won her finals match 7-0 against Morgan Schaaf of West Holt. “I was really excited to be back on the mat. I have high hopes for my season this year, and to be able to finally start it again brings me a lot of joy,” Arens said.
Junior Elizabeth DeRoos placed 3rd, wrestling at 170, and she finished the meet with nine points. In an exciting upset, DeRoos wrestled and pinned an undefeated Faith Klabenes from Wilber-Clatonia in the first round. “I was nervous going into the match against Faith because I knew that she was a very good wrestler and that it wasn’t going to be an easy win, but I trusted my coaches and abilities,” DeRoos stated.
Sophomore Lorelie Duffy placed 4th at 125, finishing with seven points. Additionally, freshman Raegin Rahn finished in sixth place, wrestling at 235 pounds and scoring three points.
Other Crofton-Bloomfield girls competing included freshman Shaun Anderson (170) finished 0-2 for the day; freshman Charlee McGargill (135) 0-2; freshman Bella Hetzel (115) finished 0-2; and senior Pamela Dennis (115) 0-2.
