The Crofton/Bloomfield Boys had a solid performance on the mat with five placing top 6 in their weight classes at the O’Neill Invite on Saturday, December 6.

Senior Brock Jeannoutot performed the best by finishing 3rd in his weight class of 175. Jeannoutot won his first two matches against wrestlers from Norfolk and Ralston, but lost his third match to Casey Schnebel of Battle Creek in a devastating loss of 5-6 because of a reversal in the last 30 seconds of the third period.

Junior Trey Tramp placed 4th in his bracket winning two out of his close four matches. Tramp won his first two, one by decision and one by pin. Tramp proceeded to lose his next two, the first one being by pin and the second being by decision (5-6) to Dominic Ogden from West Holt.

Junior Max Bruce wrestled at 165 and placed 5th with a rough start of a win and a loss shortly after. Bruce kept his head up and stayed in the top 5 by winning his last three matches. He scored a total of five points for Crofton/Bloomfield.

The other two additional placers were sophomore Reece Schmidt and senior Alex Ramponi, and they got 6th overall in their weight classes.

Schmidt’s first bout at 126 went well with a pin against a wrestler from Ralston but he lost his following match by pin. Schmidt went on to win two of his last three matches and lost his last one by decision. Alex wrestled at 150 and had to wrestle six times to fight his way back through the consolation bracket to a 6th place finish.

Sophomore Reece Schmidt said “We didn’t wrestle as well as we wanted to on Saturday, but we have some wrestlers that should make weight this week and make the team stronger.”
