The Crofton Speech team tied the knot with 3rd place on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Wausa High School’s “Sweetheart Meet,” with multiple speakers placing on both the JV and Varsity teams.

First, the Varsity team brought home 5 medals: sophomore Cecilia Wortmann experienced love at first sight in extemp, placing 2nd, as did freshman Claire Marsh with her informative speech.

The varsity OID, consisting of sophomores Fred Dennis and Kaden Arens, junior Natalie Steffen, as well as seniors Sophia Wortmann and Katie Neuharth, really put their hearts on their sleeves and ended with a 3rd place medal for their efforts.

Then there was Cecilia placing 4th with her POI speech, and last but not least, senior Katie Neuharth placed 4th in the apple of her eye event; informative.

The Junior Varsity team was just as successful, with sophomore Corbin Bernt falling head over heels for 1st place in extemp, and he and fellow sophomore Aven Hanson must be a duet team made in heaven because they got 3rd with their performance.

In 4th place, freshman Ashlyn Loecker thought poetry was her better half. The final placing for the JV team was senior Alexa Suing, who’s soulmates with her POI, earning 6th in the event for the day.
