The Crofton Market in the Park committee met in the South park at 5 p.m. on May 27 to map out what the farmer’s market would look like.

The first day of the Market in the Park will be on June 19 from 5-7 p.m. and will continue on every Friday at the same time and place.

Photos were taken to be posted on the group’s social media page created by Kim Swatzke and vendors will be listed there. There was a lot of interest in the vendor fair, so the group made decisions on what types of vendors they would like at the market.

Susie Hillman, the farmer’s market organizer, said she’s received interest from at least nine vendors, with even more interest expressed. They also discussed what types of rules and regulations they wanted to set for the market. The committee discussed wanting to have different kinds of produce, baked goods, products, and crafts.

The committee ultimately decided there would be no cost to vendors at the market, but to make sure each vendor is following Nebraska state regulations needed for their business and proper permits.

Signage was another primary discussion with Hillman pointing out that she wanted signage along Highway 12 to point toward the market and that the overall goal is to bring business to the community. There was also talk about having signs pointing to local businesses for visitors to shop at. It would also help give local farmers and vendors more income.

Hillman reached out to a fellow farmer’s market to learn more about the process of running a farmer’s market. The goal is to have the market run every Friday from the middle of June until the end of September. The group hopes to meet one more time before the market starting time to mark booths and discuss more about the market and to map out the east side of the South City Park near the playground where vendors will be set up.

Vendors should plan to be at the Crofton South Park by 3:30 p.m. to set up their booths.

The committee is looking forward to everyone attending the first market on June 19.
