Golfers play at Conference tournament

The Plainview Pirate golf team traveled to the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament at the Highland Oak Golf Course in Ponca on Monday, May 1, snagging a top-five finish with a 407 team score.

The Pirates were head of sixth-place Laurel by two strokes (407 to 409), and Ponca’s team finished in first by a distance, with 349 strokes, ahead of Creighton’s second-place finish at 377. Tri County Northeast was third with 385 and Hartington-Newcastle beat back the Pirates with 401.

Finishing in the top spot for Plainview as Ethan Rix with a 96 and 14th place overall in the 59-golfer field. The tournament was won by Gage Burns of Creighton with a 72.

Camden Dummer was second for the Pirates with 23rd place and an even 100 scorecard. Xander Albin was 27th with a close 102, Leighton Medina had a 109 for 33rd, and Harrison Thor rounded out the Pirate score with 125 and 48th in the field.

The Pirates will take to the course on May 5 at Stanton, and will travel to Twin Creek Golf Course in Pender for the District D-2 Tournament on May 15. Other teams at the tournament will be Bancroft-Rosalie, Bloomfield, Fullerton, Hartington-Newcastle, Howells-Dodge, Humphrey St. Francis, Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family, Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Omaha Brownell Talbot, Osmond, Pender, Randolph, Stanton and Wausa.

At Osmond
The Pirate golfers traveled to Osmond’s Rolling Hills Country Club on April 22 with a top three finish in the 13 team field.

Ponca won the tournament with 339, and Plainview was third with 371, trailing Summerland with 358. Hartington/Newcastle had 377, matching Niobrara/Verdigre, and Cedar Catholic, Randolph, Boyd County, Wausa, Bloomfield, Pierce JV and Osmond rounded out the field.

Top finisher for Plainview was Ethan Rix with an 84 and a seventh-place finish in the group of 62 golfers. Xander Albin was next with 14th and an 89 total score. Camden Dummer had a 98 and finished in 37th, Leighton MEdina was 42nd with an even 100, and Harrison Thor was close behind with a 101 and 43rd.
