Street work continues ahead of football playoffs

Work at the construction along Lincoln Ave. between the City baseball fields and the Ray Doerr Memorial Football field at the school.

New handicap parking near the grandstands, painted curbs, diagonal parking on the south side and additional parking along the curb on the north has all been added. Drainage ditches on the east and west sides, with new culverts and exit tubes have been completed, as well as red-stamped “brick” concrete along both sides, accessible curb cutouts and impaired attention plates on the sidewalk areas. Fencing and parking indicators have yet to be added, so drivers should watch the south side with steel pylons, and the curb jut-out in front of the concession stand.

Along with the additional street area, work has also begun on the new “practice field” and track and field area in the east side of the ballfields on the north side of the road. Three new discus pits, a new shotput area and a football practice field, completed with sprinklers were approved by the Plainview Board of Education for around $70,000 at a previous meeting.

Fans and onlookers will have a chance to view the upgrades this Thursday (today) at 4 p.m. when the Plainview Pirates begin a run at post-season football against Alma on the local field.

The Plainview City Council reduced the speed limit on Lincoln Ave. between Pine and Main (the new paved area) to 15 miles per hour at a special meeting at the end of September as well.
