
Mount Marty University in Yankton is currently showing the talented works by artist Piper Dather of Crofton.
Her art gallery runs now through March 29 with the reception and gallery talk on March 29 from 2-4 p.m.
Dather ’s show is called “Through The Eyes and Hands of a Teenager,” featuring photography, painting and drawings.
The show will be held at the BEDE Art Gallery located on the Mount Marty campus just off the Marian Auditorium Lobby. The address is 1105 West Street, Yankton, SD.

The Crofton and area youth wrestlers competed in three events over the last few weeks, traveling to Stanton, Randolph and to Vermillion.
The Stanton Bronco Trophy tournament was held on Feb. 16 with wrestlers from 30 towns and clubs taking to the mat.
A host of young Warriors wrestled at the Randolph Wrestling Club tournament, with 26 other teams in the trenches as well.

The Nebraska State Girls Wrestling tournament in Omaha on Feb. 18-19 was full of action-packed moments.
Several wrestlers represented Crofton/Bloomfield senior Rylie Arens, senior Annabelle Poppe, freshman Bethany Arens, Freshman Lorelie Duffy, and sophomore Elizabeth DeRoos.


The Crofton Lady Warriors moved on to the District Final as they beat both the Norfolk Catholic Knights (43-29) and the Ord Chanticleers (69-47) in the Subdistricts tournament on February 19 and 20.

Two Crofton Warriors will be joining the teams for the Northeast Nebraska All Star Football Classic to be played this summer at the Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
Playing on the “Red” team will be:

This year’s “Red” team coaches are Cody Volk from Battle Creek; Amp Ferg from Oakland-Craig; Jason Konicek of Wisner-Pilger; Mitch Hyde from Lutheran High Northeast; Dan Swinton of Waterloo West High; and Mike Naeve of Ankeny High in Iowa.
This year’s “White” team will be coached by Dave Stoddard, Greg Wegner and Matthew Peter, all of Stanton; Joe Anderson, former Pirate coach, of Oakland Craig; Kodiak French of Norfolk Public and Kobe Lade of Battle Creek.



Laura Arens was crowned Queen of the St. Valentine’s Day celebration at Heritage of Bel-Air Nursing Home in Norfolk on February 14, 2025.
After the coronation, there was a dance with live music, and beverages and desserts were served.
She was selected by the staff and residents of the facility for this honor. Many of her family members were able to attend.
Laura (Lolly) Arens is 102 and loves being at Heritage of Bel-Air, where “her care is sensational!”

St. Rose of Lima School has called a community meeting to update the community on the facility’s current financial status and upcoming needs.
On February 23, the entire community is welcome to attend and participate in a community meeting at St. Rose of Lima’s Church Hall, following the 8 a.m. Mass.
The topic will be an informative meeting about the current financial status and future fundraising needs of the St. Rose of Lima School and Parish.

A few of the Crofton Youth Basketball Association teams stayed busy with games over the weekend.
The fifth and third grade boys teams traveled to Osmond to play in a triangular. Both teams played hard and competed well.
The fifth graders played against Plainview’s combined fifth and sixth grade team and then against Osmond’s fifth and sixth grade team.
Their first game against Plainview was decided in the waning moments.
The third graders’ first game also came down to the final moments as they beat Osmond’s third and fourth grade team 20-19.

A host of Crofton young Warrior wrestlers traveled to Plainview for the 2025 Christian Miller Memorial tournament two weeks ago.

With a total of 130.5 team points at the Class B District wrestling tournament, the Crofton-Bloomfield girls wrestling team placed third and had five state qualifiers.
Seniors Rylie Arens and Annabelle Poppe took first place in their weight divisions, So. Elizabeth DeRoos took home second place, and freshmen Bethany Arens placed (2nd) and Lorelie Duffy placed (3rd).
The girls’ state wrestling will be taking place at the CHI Health Center in Omaha on February 18-19.

It was a close game between the Crofton Lady Warriors and Pierce Bluejays as Crofton squeaked out a 9 point victory (44-35) in the semi-final round of the Mid-State Conference Tournament.
This victory sent Pierce to the consolation round where they beat O’Neill (55-47), earning themselves 3rd place in the tournament. This win was also redemption for the Lady Warriors as the Bluejays handed them their third loss eight days earlier.

After serving as captain of the Croton Rescue Squad for the past 10 years and as an EMT on the squad for 31 years, Katie Tramp is stepping back from the leadership position.
Tramp will continue to respond to calls as an EMT for the squad, while the new leadership position will be shared by co-captains Jodi Schultz and Andrew Dennis.

Saint Rose School held a Blue Mass on Thursday, January 30, as part of the Catholic Schools Week celebration. This special event was dedicated to honoring local first responders who selflessly serve and protect our community. The Blue Mass is a tradition that dates back to the 1930s, designed to express gratitude and offer prayers for the safety and well-being of police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency personnel. After Mass, first responders were recognized with a special blessing, and students presented them with handmade poster of St. Michael the Archangel.


Crofton’s Knights of Columbus recently held a Free Throw contest for all Crofton athletes ages 9-14 for boys and girls.
Athletes from St. Rose and Crofton Public Schools competed during their Physical Education times to shoot their shots.

Crofton third grader Nealy Mueller won the South Dakota Elks Regional Hoop Shoot in the 8-9 Girls Division hosted in the Summit Activities Center in Yankton, South Dakota on Saturday, January 25.
She nailed 19 of her 25 free-throws during the contest. Her division shot from four feet inside the 15-foot free-throw line.
Her performance advanced her to the South Dakota Elks State Hoop Shoot on Saturday, February 8 in Pierre, South Dakota


Jaida Allen recently signed her “letter of intent” to play basketball for the Mount Marty Lancers next year. Allen, pictured here with Lacey Sprakel, a former Warrior and also a Lancer women’s basketball player; her parents, Tom and Wanda Allen; and Coaches Allan Bertram and Marissa Caballero.


Main Street Treasures recently made good on a promised donation for $1,000 toward a new bench by the playground equipment at the North Park. The Crofton High School Class of 2024 had chosen this project, and was represented here by Elizabeth Wortmann.


The Crofton boys and girls club basketball teams had a light week with no big tournaments happening over the weekend.
However, a number of the teams held scrimmages.
This started with the fifth and sixth grade girls scrimmaging each other Thursday night in preparation for the Crofton Booster Club Tournament.
The fourth grade girls played in Bloomfield on Friday, January 17 and won 42-20.
On the boys side, Crofton’s third, fourth, and fifth grade boys teams scrimmaged morning on Saturday, January 18.
The scrimmages started with the Crofton 4th grade team competing against the Crofton 5th graders.
After that, the Crofton third graders hosted the Hartington third graders and won 21-10.
The fourth graders then scrimmaged the third graders.
