With a 7-1 regular-season record, the Plainview Pirates were given the number seven seed in the 2025 NSAA Class D1 State Football Playoffs, which matched them up with the number-26 seed Alma Cardinals in the first round on Thursday, Oct. 23.
Against the 4-4 Cardinals, the Pirates started out slow but ultimately took care of business.
In the first quarter, neither offense managed to get much going as both defenses stood strong and made plays.
It wasn’t until under a minute left that the first touchdown of the game was finally scored by the Pirates, who managed to punch one in on a four-yard run by Colt Kromarek.

A mural, painted by Wendi Bantam of Lincoln, had been painted on the west side of Keystone Bar in the spring of 2010 at the efforts of the Plainview Development Company and the Plainview Community Club.
After 15 years in the community, the PBCF received permission from the Keystone Bar’s owner, Sherry Ristow, to cover the mural and make plans for a new decoration in the downtown location.
More will be reported as it becomes known.

The team's nomination blank and plaque that will hang in the hallway at PHS reads:
“It’s not how you start, its how you finish. That cliché speaks to the seniors on the 2005 Pirate football team who won just 3 games their first two seasons only to finish with 19 wins their last two seasons. It’s also fitting to describe the 2005 team who dropped their first game of the season before Coach Joe Anderson led them to 11 wins in their final 12 games including a 15 point win in the state title game at UNL’s Memorial Stadium. Ten players on the 2005 team earned postseason honors making this one of the most decorated teams in the proud history of Plainview Pirate Football.”
